Hangzhou Wahaha Group Co., Ltd. was founded in 1987 and is currently the largest food and beverage manufacturer in China. It has established more than 140 joint venture holding and shareholding companies in 28 provinces and cities across the country, and has established sales branches in all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government except Taiwan. It has nearly 28,000 employees and total assets of 24 billion yuan. The company has a world-class automated production line, as well as advanced food and beverage R & D testing instruments and processing technology, mainly engaged in the development, production and sales of food and beverages, mainly producing milk beverages, bottled water, carbonated beverages, tea beverages, fruit juice beverages, canned food, medical and health products, snack food and other eight categories of nearly 100 varieties of products, including bottled water, milk beverages, canned porridge for many years has been ranked first in the country. In 2007, the company achieved an operating income of 25.80 billion yuan. Wahaha has ranked first in China’s beverage industry for 10 consecutive years in terms of asset size, output, sales income, profit, profits and taxes, and has become the largest, most efficient and most promising food and beverage enterprise in China.
In the past 20 years, Wahaha has paid a total of 6.80 billion yuan in taxes to the state, funded education and various social welfare undertakings 200 million diversified; vigorously developed agricultural and sideline products deep processing projects, and purchased various agricultural and sideline products worth 7.80 billion yuan in the past 20 years, directly and indirectly solving the employment problem of the 400,000 rural population; in the central and western regions, poverty-stricken areas, and Northeast old industrial zones, nearly 40 factories have been invested and built, making positive contributions to promoting local economic and social development.
Due to his outstanding leadership and management ability, Zong Qinghou, the chairperson and general manager of the company, was awarded the National Labor Model, the "May Day" Labor Medal, the National Outstanding Entrepreneur, the 2002CCTV China Economic Person of the Year, the Outstanding Socialist Cause Builder with Chinese Characteristics, the Yuan Baohua Enterprise Management Gold Award, and the 2005 China’s Most Influential Enterprise Leader. He was honorably elected to the 10th National People’s Congress and re-elected to the 11th National People’s Congress.

In 2008, the sales revenue was 32.50 billion, an increase of about 26%, the profit and tax were 6.60 billion yuan, and the net profit was about 4 billion.
