Beijing │ China’s Surrounding Security Environment and Surrounding Strategy

Time:October 26th (Friday) 19:00-20:30.

Location:Room 602, Floor 6, Cultural Building, No.59 Zhongguancun Street, Haidian District

Speaker:Fang Changping (Associate Dean, School of International Studies, Renmin University of China)

The Trump administration of the United States provoked a global trade war and stepped up the implementation of the so-called "Indo-Pacific strategy", and the competitive factors in Sino-US relations became more prominent. Sino-US trade talks are deadlocked. When the United States, Mexico and Canada reach a new North American Free Trade Agreement, the United States actively appeases its Asian allies in an attempt to force China to back down. How can China break through? The United States, Japan and Europe have accelerated pragmatic cooperation, and the linkage and cooperation between other countries in the region have become more active; The ups and downs of the DPRK nuclear issue and the new trends of the South China Sea issue have important influences on the regional situation. Global terrorist activities tend to be diversified and decentralized, traditional threats rise and fall, non-traditional threats continue to spread, and the fear of global disorder is pervasive. How does China deal with the increasingly complex surrounding security environment by taking the surrounding relations into consideration? Professor Fang Changping from the School of International Studies of Renmin University of China will give you a wonderful lecture.

Sanzang Bukong was the founder of Dahong esoteric Buddhism in the middle Tang Dynasty and translated a large number of Buddhist classics. At the same time, as a foreign monk, he gained great political power in the Su Dynasty and the Dai Dynasty. Therefore, various materials appeared behind him to remember his achievements. Such a famous figure, when the historian started writing, adopted a different way to write a basic message: as a foreigner, what country did he come from? In this regard, the statements in the scriptures are also very different. This problem has puzzled many esoteric scholars in ancient and modern times. Are these statements really contradictory to each other as they literally seem? His background is not well known to his disciples and colleagues? Or is there a different historical orientation behind this different statement?

In traditional reading, children’s exposure to fantasy literature should be fairy tales, but the fantasy of fairy tales is doomed to disillusion. In fact, everyone’s growth process is the process of disillusionment of fairy tales. We gradually understand that animals can’t talk, plants have no souls, and stones and rivers can’t have life. But science fiction is different. Science fiction goes the opposite way to fairy tale fantasy. If children have read science fiction, as they grow up, science fiction will not be shattered, but will become more and more real. With the development of the times, the possibility of these imaginations becoming reality is increasing. On October 28th, let’s talk about science fiction for children.

Shanghai in the 19th century had the most cosmopolitan urban culture at that time, surpassing Paris, London and new york. The cosmopolitanism of the Bund and Nanjing Road made Shanghai different from other cities in modern China. In the Victorian era, Shanghai was the first city in China to use street lamps, the first city to introduce cars and open bus lines, and built the earliest power plant in China and the third in the world. In the 1980s, the old jazz band of Peace Hotel became one of the representatives of Shanghai characteristics … Professor Li Tiangang will take Nanjing Road as an example, starting from Shanghai in the 19th century, and trace back to the two sources of Shanghai-style culture with you: the "Victorian era" imported by modernity and the "golden age" of Chinese and foreign integration.

In this activity, Hao Zhaokuan, a professor at the School of Philosophy of Fudan University, will discuss the "Godel Program" with you.

This lecture will take the travels of Meiji writer Tokutomi Sohō, Taisho writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa and Showa writer Kobayashi Hideo as examples to analyze the image of Hangzhou. Generally speaking, Japanese modern writers who came to China basically created the contradictory and divided image of Hangzhou, which set the ideal Hangzhou against the real Hangzhou. This praise for the ideal Hangzhou has weakened with the deterioration of Sino-Japanese relations in modern times, while the contempt for the real Hangzhou has become more and more obvious. In their orientalist discourse, Hangzhou was otherized and objectified. They saw themselves from the other Hangzhou, and their distorted description of Hangzhou made the Japanese at that time satisfied themselves.

Wang Zengqi is delicious, good at cooking and good at talking about eating, so that the literary and art circles "rumor" and "say that Wang Zengqi is a gourmet". However, how can a eater who does nothing more than cook dried shredded pork, cold radish, stuffed meat, fried dough sticks and other home-cooked dishes, but also say that "meat eaters don’t despise" and "fish I want" can’t get on the table? In this regard, Wang Zengqi is quite self-aware. He said that he is not as good at eating as Zhang Daqian. He just loves cooking and loves to ponder how to "cook coarse dishes carefully". From this self-report, we may be able to see clearly the uniqueness of this gourmet who needs quotation marks, how this uniqueness carved himself in the history of China’s food culture, and how it corresponded with his novel creation. Speaker:Lu nei (writer)

Seventeen-year-old light cavalry is the only collection of short stories in the writer’s road so far, which includes 13 novels that he wrote intermittently in the past nine years from 2008 to 2017. Using the capacity of a book to fully display such a critical moment of life as 17 years old is to find such an equivalent time weight for readers to some extent. At the age of 17, it seems that everything is still confused and chaotic, but many hidden lines have been buried, and the life after that is just revealed one by one. For a writer, short stories are usually a better way for him to roam other writing fields, but on the way, he used this book to complete his complement to the "Follow the Trilogy". In the eyes of continuous attention on the road, their 17-year-old time provided not only a thin sample of youth, but a deeper and wider field.
